FAQ
Short & clear: the most important answers about the Arctic BBQ 2026.
Do I Have to Exchange Money Beforehand?
The national currency in Sweden is the Swedish Krona (SEK). The hotel where you will be staying is a cashless hotel, meaning you can only pay with an EC/debit/credit card. You can also pay by card in all other shops in the city.
What Do I Need to Pack for a Trip to the North?
The winters in Swedish Lapland can get very cold with temperatures down to -30 °C. Therefore, appropriate clothing is very important. For your stay with us, you will be equipped with a thermal overall, boots, gloves, a helmet and ski goggles. In addition to this equipment, we recommend bringing the following:
- Cozy and breathable ski underwear
- Hat, scarf and your own gloves, sturdy and warm winter shoes
- Sunglasses and sunscreen for the face
- Spare glasses for glasses wearers and contact lens wearers
- Required medication
- Lip balm and rich creams for face and hands (avoid water-based creams for face or hands at low temperatures)
- Swimwear & bathing shoes
We also recommend a layered approach to dressing. Each layer has a specific function. Please contact our team if you would like to receive a more detailed packing list.
Where Exactly Do the Activities Take Place?
We offer our own activities and work with various professional service providers on site to be able to offer a wider range of activities. The hotel is located in Arvidsjaur (approx. 100 km south of the Arctic Circle) and all activities start nearby.

Do I Drive My Own Snowmobile or Am I a Passenger?
Most of our snowmobiles are single-seaters, so you can drive your own snowmobile. If you would like to take a tour as a passenger, this is of course also possible with our two-seater snowmobiles. Just let us know what you prefer.
Is it Dark all the Time?
The times for sunrise and sunset change very quickly (there is a difference of about 8 minutes every day) and the twilight phase is longer than in Germany, for example. Here you can check the exact times.
Can I See the Northern Lights?
Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are a natural phenomenon, just like a cloudy sky, sun or snow, and therefore cannot be guaranteed. However, in theory it is possible to see them on a clear night sky. We always recommend checking the KP index, a value that measures the geomagnetic disturbances caused by solar activity. The higher the index, the greater the chances of seeing Northern Lights. In Arvidsjaur, it is best possible to see Northern Lights at a KP of at least 3 (the scale ranges from 0 to 9).
Where Can I Find Information about the Hotel where I Will be Staying?
You will be staying at Hotel Laponia. It is one of the few hotels in and around Arvidsjaur and by far the largest hotel in the area. Thanks to its central location, it is an ideal starting point for all activities.
Further information can be found at: Hotel Laponia
From which Airports Can I Fly Directly to Arvidsjaur?
You can easily reach Arvidsjaur by direct flight from these airports in Germany:
- Cologne
- Hanover
- Dusseldorf
- Munich
Other airports are available upon request.
